Option 1: Replacement Value Protection (RVP)

RVP is a plan to protect you if the unexpected happens to your personal items during your move. Should items get lost or damaged during your move, Ray's wil repair the item to its original condition or replace at today's market price. This protection is only limited by the amount of valuation you select, with the only requirement being that a minimum of $10.00 per pound be achieved. For example, if you had 10,000 pounds, then the lowest valuation you could apply to your goods is $100,000.00. You can value your goods higher at your descretion. An additional charge is applied to your move based on your valuation.

Option 2: Standard Protection

You do not pay extra for this type of basic coverage (it is included in your transportation and moving costs). However, in the event of a claim for damage or loss, the maximum amount a carrier liability is $0.60 per pound per article.

Standard Protection on Long Distance Moves

For example, if your computer desk is damaged by the carrier in the move and you have chosen this option, the carrier is not liable for more than $66.00 (computer desks generally weigh 110 lbs). If the damaged or lost item was packed in a carton by a United Van Lines Agent, the maximum amount payable is calculated on the total weight of the packed carton.

If a total loss were to ever occur (by fire for example), your maximum protection would be $0.60 for each pound of actual weight of your entire shipment of household goods.

For example, 10,000 lbs × $0.60 = $6,000 maximum liability. Ray's Moving and Storage Co.Ltd./United Van Lines has the option of repairing, replacing, or arranging a fair cash settlement up to the maximum protection amount per pound per article under this option.

Standard Protection on Local Moving

Insurance is released at $0.60 per pound per article, based on the actual weight of the carton or item and subject to a maximum of $50.00 per item. The remainder is the responsibility of the shipper. Customer packed goods are carried at their own risk unless there is visible damage to the carton. The following goods are excluded from Cargo Protection: jewelry, coins, stamps, documents, watches, currency, precious stones and metals, and perishables such as food, plants, etc. You are strongly urged to take these items with you.

Although this liability protection is the least favorable, it may be adequate if you have alternate coverage on your household possessions that provides a complete "all risk" protection during the entire moving process.
